Thierry HERCEND, M.D., Ph.D.
Chairman of the Supervisory Board

Thierry Hercend has more than 25 years of both academic and pharmaceutical experience in various therapeutic areas such as oncology and auto-immune diseases. From 2002 until 2006, Thierry was Vice President in charge of oncology at Aventis. From 1998 to 2002, he was Vice President Research, Europe at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Previously, Thierry was Head of Research and Development for the Laboratory of French Plasma Fractionation and Biotechnology (LFB) and was in various executive R&D positions with Roussel-Uclaf. Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, Thierry was Head of the Hemato-Immunology unit of the Gustave Roussy Institute in Villejuif, France, Director of the Inserm unit U333 dedicated to immunological oncology and a Professor of Medicine at Paris XI University. He has authored more than 120 publications in immunological oncology, auto-immune diseases and organ transplantation. Thierry Hercend is a Board Certified Medical Doctor and holds a PhD in Immunology from Paris VII University.

Philippe POULETTY, M.D., Ph.D.

Founder of three biotechnology companies in North America and Europe (SangStat, Conjuchem and DrugAbuse Sciences), Philippe Pouletty is also honorary chairman of France Biotech, the French biotechnology association and Chairman of the Strategic Council for Innovation, which provides independent advice to the French government on innovation and research policy and member of the strategic council for France attractivity chaired by the Prime minister. He is also vice chairman of Europabio (the biotechnology association). Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur and laureate of the American Foundation, Philippe Pouletty is Medical Doctor from University of Paris VI and former Post-Doctoral Fellow at Stanford University

Gilles NOBECOURT

Gilles Nobecourt joined EDRIP in 2002. He held various positions for the French government (Prime minister counsellor, Research and Industry Minister counsellor) before joining Rhone Poulenc Rorer (Aventis) where he was VP World Operations for RPR Gencell, the biotechnology division  of RPR, based in San Francisco (CA, USA) and Director of a commercial division in Mexico. Gilles was a consultant for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies when he worked for Russel Reynolds & Associates. Gilles holds an IEP Paris (Institut d’Etudes Politiques) diploma and a complementary formation from Stanford University (Graduate School of Business). Gilles is member of the supervisory board for Androclus Therapeutics, Faust Pharmaceuticals, U3 Pharma and Genethon.

Béatrice LLIRBAT, M.D., Ph.D.

Béatrice Llirbat, MD, PhD, is partner in the Bioconvergence team at SGAM Alternative Investments Private Equity. Prior to joining SGAM Alternative Investments in 2000, she specialized in clinical biology and worked as a research fellow in neurobiology (CNRS, Paris and in the Max Planck Institute, Munich). Béatrice is in charge of several biotechnology companies invested by SGAM AI funds and is a supervisory board member of Cytomics Pharmaceuticals and Trophos.
Béatrice holds a MD from the University of Paris V and a PhD in Neurosciences from the University of Paris VI. She also holds a Certified European Financial Analyst diploma.

Gilles BRISSON
Gilles Brisson has been Chairman of the Management board of Aventis Pharma S.A. since 1999 and then Chairman of its supervisory board. Mr Brisson, who joined the pharmaceutical division of the Rhône-Poulenc group in 1980, has assumed different operational responsibilities in France, Europe and Japan and was Senior Vice President Corporate Development of Rhône-Poulenc Rorer. He was in charge of commercial operations in France for Aventis where he has served as Corporate Senior Vice President of worldwide Communications and for Public Affairs. He was then responsible for Europe commercial operations. Mr Brisson had similar responsibilities for the Sanofi-Aventis group. He was previously director of marketing at SMO and Smith Corona-Marchant Corp. Mr Brisson is a graduate of HEC (1973), a leading French business school.

Martine GEORGE, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Martine George is currently Senior Vice President Drug Development, Chief Medical Officer with GPC Biotech based in Germany and United States. Martine is located in Princeton, New Jersey. She is an internationally well-known oncology expert with over fifteen years of experience at major pharmaceutical companies, as well as several years in an academic position at the Institute G. Roussy, Villejuif, France. Prior to joining GPC Biotech, Martine was Senior Vice President, Head of Oncology at Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development. Before that she held a number of executive positions in the areas of clinical and medical affairs, including at Johnson & Johnson, Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (now part of Sanofi-Aventis), Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corporation (now Novartis) and American Cyanamid.
